Vaishnavi Chaitanya's roles in Baby and Epic raise questions about her career choices and future opportunities.
Vaishnavi Chaitanya has already discovered what happens when a character becomes bigger than the actress playing it. Baby gave her a major breakthrough, but the same role also brought plenty of backlash. Now, after Epic, there is a different concern around her career choices. Is Vaishnavi slowly getting pushed into the “bold heroine” bracket?
There is nothing wrong with doing bold roles. In fact, Vaishnavi Chaitanya has shown that she can handle difficult and emotionally demanding characters. But repeating the same image can become tricky, especially for an actress still trying to establish her space in the industry.
What makes this more interesting is that Vaishnavi herself had spoken about feeling bad for a moment after the backlash to Baby. She was only playing a character, yet the reaction clearly reached her. For Epic too, director Aditya Hasan revealed that she had reservations about some of the bold scenes and was worried about the response.
So why go back to a similar zone again?
Vaishnavi now needs to be careful. Another bold, intense role may bring attention, but a strong performance-oriented character could do much more for her career. She has already proved that she can shock audiences. The next challenge is proving that she can surprise them without always being the bold heroine.
