After the pandemic and lockdown, Tollywood adopted a new trend: announcing movie release dates well in advance. Initially, release dates were respected, but soon the trend of shifting and changing these dates became a norm in Tollywood.
It became common to announce dates and then alter them repeatedly, leading to a situation where even fans have stopped taking the announced dates seriously.
Recent examples of this include the much-discussed film Vishwambhara, which was announced for a Sankranti release but has now been delayed without any clarity on the new release date.
Another example is the film Hari Hara Veera Mallu, which was set for release on March 28, a date that had been consistently mentioned by the makers.
They even released a poster with the same date. However, recently, Mythri Movie Makers announced that they would be releasing Robinhood on the same date. This has turned out to be a huge disappointment for Pawan Kalyan fans.
Similarly, the much-anticipated film starring Vijay Devarakonda and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri is also likely to miss its announced date. Like Hari Hara Veera Mallu, this movie was planned for a pan-India release, and now, the release date is uncertain.
This has led fans to lose trust in release date announcements. There is a growing sentiment among them, “Please stop announcing release dates; we don’t believe it anymore!”
This situation is not unique to just a few films. If we look back at recent years, this pattern of shifting release dates has become a recurring issue in the Telugu film industry causing a lot of troubles for small and medium budget films.
