Lesser Gross Worldwide Still Emerges As Winner In Competition

While in Telugu cinema it has been a one-horse race (F2) as far the successful movie is considered, the case is different in Tamil cinema. Here it has been a two-horse race, and the highlight is the lesser grosser emerging as a real winner.

In Tamil, two films, Superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta and Ajith’s Viswasam clashed at the box office. It was a date to date release for both the movies. Usually, with a Superstar movie, there would be no competition in the first place, but Ajith proved to be a strong opponent and held his ground firmly.

In the overseas, Petta was always expected to lead which it did, but eventually, it conceded to Viswasam in the second and third weekends in the traditional markets. At the home turf, that is, Tamil Nadu, Viswasam has been ahead from the first day, barring few, until now.

So, putting these two together, the worldwide number of Petta is bigger than Viswasam, but the way Viswasam has held its own in the Tamil Nadu and showed long legs in the traditional markets has given it the winner of the clash perception. Ajith has scored his first 100 Cr Gross movie in TN and 150Cr Gross Worldwide with Viswasam. There is an outside chance of it reaching the 200Cr Gross which would be a sensational achievement in a clash with Superstar movie.
