Vizag: No helmet leads 1282 commuters into trouble

The mandatory helmet rule imposed in Vishakapatnam had left 1282 cases on the first day of the enforcement. The Police had imposed the rule very strictly and they have also collected a fine of 1.47 Lakh on a single day.

The police claim that they have already given enough time to two wheeler riders to procure helmets and they also took up a sustained campaign about the helmet rule. On the other side, helmet showrooms are resorting to day light robbery by increasing the helmet rates.

This rule was supposed to be in place from April 1st but was postponed on couple of occasions. In Vishakapatnam limits, according to the police records, about 65% of the riders died of head injuries and for not wearing helmets.
