WAR 2 Biggest Flop: Blessing in Disguise for NTR?

The box office failure of War 2 may have disappointed Jr NTR’s fans, but it has worked out in his favour. Producer Aditya Chopra had big plans for NTR’s character Agent Vikram in the YRF Spy Universe, including a possible spin-off.

Had War 2 become a blockbuster, NTR could have been tied to multiple franchise films. Those projects would have placed him alongside Bollywood stars, limiting his individuality. The film’s failure has freed him from such commitments, which might be a blessing.

Recent trends in the market highlight the risks. Telugu actors working with Bollywood directors often face setbacks. Bollywood’s Khans are choosing proven South filmmakers like Lokesh Kanagaraj and Atlee, while Telugu stars have trusted directors like Om Raut, Apoorva Lakhia, and Ayan Mukerji, who lack strong mass-market appeal.

For NTR, the better path lies in teaming with homegrown directors such as Prashanth Neel, Trivikram Srinivas, or Nelson Dilipkumar. These filmmakers guarantee scale, loyal audiences, and strong collections, which many Hindi cinema directors cannot offer at present.

Meanwhile, Yash Raj Films itself seems unsure about its direction. With War 2 rejected, the Spy Universe now depends on Alpha starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, releasing in December 2025. If it fails, the entire franchise may collapse.

Tiger vs Pathaan looks unlikely, with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan not showing interest. Tiger 4 remains stalled, Pathaan 2 is only speculation, and talk of War 3 has disappeared. Industry reports suggest YRF may shift towards smaller OTT spin-offs instead of big-screen spectacles.

In this light, the failure of War 2 has spared NTR from being trapped in a shaky franchise. Instead of losing momentum in Bollywood’s troubled spy saga, he can focus on delivering massive Telugu blockbusters, where his stardom remains unchallenged.
