M9 News Journalist Nishant sat with King Nagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga movie director, Vijay Binni ahead of the movie release on January 14th as Sankranthi Special.
The first-time director narrated how he has been working hard to make his debut for the last five years and how he entered the project which was supposed to be the directional debut of his friend, Prasanna.
We asked him by coming into the project at the last minute and hurrying into the shoot, if he had time to connect with the story.
He narrated why they are referring to Naa Saami Ranga as Pandaga Cinema and how Nagarjuna will make the fans happy.
“Nagarjuna garu rocked in dances. The body language and action episodes will remind us of Vintage Nagarjuna. Fans are in for a treat this Sankranthi,” he said.
When asked if it is possible to recreate Vintage Actor after they passed the prime, the young director confidently said it is possible.
We also asked him if it is possible to create the look and feel that is present in Malayalam films and how the slow-paced drama is made into Sankranthi cinema without disturbing the soul of the movie.
“This is not an exact remake. We took a point and weaved a story that is fit to our sensibilities. The audience will definitely enjoy it,” he says.
We also asked him about casting Raj Tharun and Allari Naresh for the characters and also about working with Keeravani, a very experienced music director and Oscar award winner.
“He is more like a friend. He gave the space for a new director like me. With his music, my choreography, and Nag Sir’s screen presence, songs will be a treat to watch on the screen,” he said.
Finally, he also opened up about the visibility problems the movie may face due to intense competition in the Sankranthi season.
“Our audience are rare breed. Even if they have no money, they will borrow and watch the film. Sankranthi has the space to accommodate three to four films. I do not think there is a problem,” he confidently says.
