Why designers are tight lipped on Modi’s wardrobe?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pinstripe suit worn during US President Barack Obama’s India visit had stirred a huge controversy after a Newspaper report claimed it cost 10 Lakhs. In December, Odisha based law student Rohit Kumar had filed an RTI query to the Prime Minister’s office regarding the designers engaged for the wardrobe of Prime Minister for his domestic and foreign tours.

The Prime minister’s office confirmed that it did not have anything related to the request sought. The PMO also said that it can not answer the question as the office do not have such records. There is an indirect hint in the statement that the expenses on Prime Minister’s clothes were not made from government exchequer and there was no such information on record available with the office.

Mumbai based fashion design Troy Costa designed Modi’s clothes for his tour of America in 2014. The designers also remained tight lipped about the costs incurred on the Prime Minister’s wardrobe.
