Why no sports biopic in south cinema?

While Bollywood is busy making brilliant biopics based on sports personalities such as Milkha Singh, and soon to follow are films on Mary Kom, Dhyan Chand and even wrestler Dara Singh. However, down south we are more interested in making biopics based on some ruler or ardent devotee of god such as Ramadasu or Annamayya. Don’t we have sportsperson or other interesting biopic stories to narrate?

One of the reasons is that south Indians are more acquainted to the idea of spiritualism through cinema. The reason films such as Ramadasu and Annamayya clicked because they had strong spiritual and philosophical undertones, and we being highly spiritual, lapped it up. However, the times are changing and so are we, and therefore, it’s important we deviate from this path.

Why can’t we make a film on athlete P.T Usha or Vishwanath Anand? It would be interesting to see such a perspective being shaped into a feature film, doesn’t it?
