Kannada Film Industry’s pro-Kannada activists had long been inhibiting the release of dubbing films into Kannada area though it is not legal. Fearing the outbursts and trade pressures from the pro-Kannada outfits, there had been an unofficial ban on dubbing movies in Karnataka and even ‘Baahubali 2‘ was unofficially banned from releasing in the State due to several trade pressures.
However, the pro-dubbing teams can see the growth of dubbing as a mainstream creative art and since, there is no official ban possible, they want more non-Kannada movies to come to Karnataka. It’s left to be seen if the Kannada dubbing version of ‘Sye Raa‘ will make it to theatres in Karnataka as it has Sudeep who is a big name in Sandalwood. There would be pressure from Sudeep’s fans for the Kannada version of the movie. But, at the end of the day, it’s all about sentiments.
