Vasu’s Pain Will Make Everyone Emotional: Varun Tej

Varun Tej’s action extravaganza Matka directed by Karuna Kumar is all set for a grand release on the 14th of this month. While the teaser and songs have set strong buzz, the trailer took them to the next level.

There have been reports that, the story is based on the life of the famous Matka King Ratan Khatri. Varun Tej clarifies saying, “The director chose Vizag backdrop. Ratan Khatri is known as the Matka King. He came from Pakistan to Mumbai, and although there are many rumors about his actions, there is little evidence to confirm them. In an era without mobile phones, Khatri supposedly sent out one number across the country in a single day, but how he did it remains a mystery. Our director, imagining how Ratan Khatri would have done things in a different scenario, designed Vasu’s character based on these ideas.”

The movie will see Varun Tej uttering his dialogues in Vizag slang. “Since Vasu comes from Burma, initially there was no need for him to speak with a particular accent. But as his character evolves throughout the film, you can notice his accent changes, reflecting his growing age and experiences.”

Varun Tej says that one particular scene in second half will make everyone emotional. “There’s a very emotional scene in the second half where Vasu shares his pain with his daughter, telling her a story about why he became the way he is. It’s a very beautiful scene, and anyone watching it will likely be moved to tears. I spent almost a week just reading that scene and the dialogues over and over. I’m excited to see how the audience will receive it.”

Varun Tej also heaped praise son director Karuna Kumar for his writing and taking.
