10 Crore additional loss to Hyd Metro

Hyderabad Metro Rail Project which was started with an estimation of around 14000 Crore is already inching towards 20000 Crores as the state government is insisting on alignment changes and is delaying the right of the way to the project. Now this delay is resulting in one more 10 Crore loss to the state exchequer. The safety certification obtained will be lapsing next month.

The necessary certification for the 8 km-stretch between Nagole and Mettuguda which was slated for March 21 launch is going to lapse. Research Design & Standards Organization (RDSO), which works under the ministry of railways, issued the safety certificate with the speed limit of 80 kmph in January.

According to the rules, the metro train service should be operational within nine months of receiving the certificate, failing which a fresh clearance needs to be obtained. The certificate is lapsing next month and the 10 Crore spent on it will be a waste. The state government spent Rs 2.5 crore on the RDSO tests while the project concessionaire Larsen & Toubro footed the rest of the expenditure.
