200 Crore and Hyderabad Is Still Not Swachh

The five-day Swachh Hyderabad campaign by VVIPs, politicians, high-powered bureaucrats and glamourous film stars which costed a whopping 200 Crore to state exchequer, completed more than an year but then the city continues to remain dirty as before. CM KCR back then took Parisigutta under his wing and promised to remodel the nala passes through Mohmadguda, Shabadguda and New Ashoknagar.

But nothing really happened. The Chief Minister also promised shifting of houses in the low lying areas by constructing new houses but did not speak a word about them in his two visits later. Swachh Hyderabad campaign from May 16 to 20 last year saw the city divided into 420 compartments with each area getting a mentor or a patron in the form of an elected public representative, government official, or a public figure.

Except a handful of patron – not a single MLA except for Akbaruddin Owaisi sent their grievances list to GHMC. Most of the patrons did not even meet the colony welfare associations to hear out grievances. None of the patrons visited their areas after the campaign or followed up with the GHMC on the grievances except governor Narasimhan.
