Amaravati, which was reduced to ruins over the past few years under the YCP regime, is now coming back to life. CM Chandrababu Naidu has already restarted the works in the capital city. Today, the government officials briefed him about the progress of the works in Amaravati during the District Collectors Conference.
Speaking at the meeting today, an official stated that the works were completely stalled, machinery was destroyed, roads were dug up, materials were sold, pipes were removed, and significant destruction occurred in the last five years. He mentioned that structures were damaged, and demobilization had taken place in Amaravati.
He further explained that from that state of neglect, the Amaravati works have recently been restarted. Every structure and road was inspected by a team of professors from IIT Madras and IIT Hyderabad. They provided a roadmap for reconstructing all the structures and roads after a detailed inspection.
Consultants and designers who were involved in the construction of the capital city but were removed during the demobilization phase have now been reinstated.
As of now, an administrative sanction of Rs. 20,500 crore has been approved to restart the works. Tenders will be floated this week, and the works are expected to begin very soon.
The Department of Economic Affairs, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank have come forward to fund the construction of Amaravati. Yesterday, ADB approved Rs. 15,000 crore, while a meeting between World Bank representatives and CRDA officials is scheduled for December 19. In total, Rs. 31,000 crore in funds have been tied up for the project so far.
Officials stated that the sanctioned amount would be sufficient enough to take the works forward and complete all pending works in the capital city.
