93% outgoing Biz grads in India are useless

A study by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) revealed that only 7% of the graduates passing out of Indian business schools today are actually employable. Assocham represents over 450,000 business entities and so the study rings danger bells about the B-schools standards in the country.

The study says except for the IIMs and the top 20 ranking institutions, most of India’s 5,500 B-schools produce “un-employable” graduates. Even if they get employed, they will land up in jobs with very less pay (Rs 10000 a month). The study says Lack of quality control and infrastructure, low-paying jobs through campus placement and poor faculty are the major reasons.

Outdated curriculum also plays a major part, the study reveals. Around 220 B-schools were closed down in the last two year in cities such as Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Dehradun, etc. Assocham says at least 120 more are expected to shut shop by the end of this year
