Alarming Rise: Women getting beaten up in Hyd

Despite the huge presence of educated and working population in the city, Hyderabad is still experiencing a very high increase in domestic violence cases. The State Women’s Commission in 2014 had got 60 such cases in Hyderabad. Of these, a majority concern extra-marital affairs or second marriage.

However they say the domestic violence is much more in the city. In most cases, victims bear the torture silently and in overboard cases, settlements are done out of the courts. So this figure is said to br grossly under reported one.

The domestic violence is even more in Muslims. Women were not even allowed to complain about second marriage as the Muslim Personal Law allows a man to have four wives at any point of time. Muslim woman lack the courage to file a complaint of harassment as it may lead to further marriages.
