PTI reports suggest that United States has approached India for the provisional arrest of Rajya Sabha MP KVP Ramachandra Rao. It is known that KVP was indicted by an American court for money laundering. During the late YSR’s tenure, KVP reportedly mediated a deal between YSR and two companies from United States and Ukraine for selling of Titanium dug illegally from Andhra Pradesh. The accused have bribed $ 18 millions to American officials too.
So, America is pushing for a provisional arrest of KVP. There is an extradition treaty between India and United States, if government is willing it may hand over KVP to US. KVP is still with Congress even after YSR’s death and his son YS Jagan floating a separate political party. He was recently nominated by the party to Rajya Sabha. We will have to see if Congress protects him from arrest! In case KVP is arrested, it will also affect YSR Congress’ poll prospects.
