Amaravati Capital Bill In Parliament

The Amaravati Capital Bill has now reached Parliament. According to Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, the Bill could be passed in the upcoming Parliament sessions if all reviews are completed on time.

The Bill has already been cleared by the union law ministry and is currently with the union home ministry for review. The Andhra Pradesh government is working towards getting it approved to give legal sanctity to Amaravati as the permanent capital of the state.

Pemmasani spoke to media during a meeting organised by AP CRDA. He stressed the importance of recognising Amaravati as the permanent capital and listed the issues that slowed the city’s development between 2019 and 2024.

Earlier, the YSRCP government promoted the idea of three capitals for decentralised growth. It passed the Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act in 2020. The High Court later ruled the Act illegal, and the government approached the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, a new government took charge in AP.

The Chandrababu government filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that Amaravati would be the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh. It also said the capital would be fully developed within three years.
