
After five years of gross neglect under YSRCP government, the works in people’s capital Amaravati are back on track. In fact, the works are going on at a fast pace.
The government has estimated a cost of Rs 64,000 crore for the construction of government buildings, roads, drainage, construction of reservoirs and other such infrastructure facilities along with layouts for plots to be given to the farmers.
The tenders have already been approved for Rs 50,000 crore. Around 8000 workers are carrying out construction works.
The alliance government has set a target of three years for the completion of works. Meanwhile, it is looking at procuring 45,000 acres of land keeping the future needs in view for the international airport and sports city.
It is known that in the past, the YSRCP government barely laid a brick out of vengeance. It totally killed Amaravati brand value. However, once the alliance government took charge on June 12 last year, it took up Amaravati redevelopment as the first priority.
It took 8 months for the alliance government to clean up the state in which Amaravati was. They had to cancel the past tenders and contracts and call for new tenders.
Due to this, the construction cost has increased by 20-25%, which is about Rs 15,000 crore. But the work is on. The construction of 7-storey CRDA office in 3.6 acres is going on at a brisk pace.
360 km highway works are also going on at a quick pace. Two pre-fabricated buildings are coming up to house offices related to MAUD.
The 12 buildings for various officers are also bring constructed on a priority basis. They will be completed in a year. Similarly, the work on houses for judges and ministers is also underway.
Reservoirs are being constructed at Sakhamuru and Krishayapalem. A state-of-art Forensic Lab is also in progress. It will help AP police along with police from other states.
Top educational institutions like BITS, XLRI, National Law University are keen on opening campuses in Amaravati and the government has alloted lands for them.
The alliance government has also allotted 50 acres for India’s first quantum computing village. 10 acres were allotted for L&T to develop IT Towers. A superspeciality hospital with 150 bed capacity is also being developed.
Isreal authorities have come forward to establish international-level garden center. The government is discussing with Singapore consortium for startup area.
189.4 km ORR road has been approved by the Center. The land acquisition cost will also be borne by the Center. A proposal for inner ring road is also being considered.
Roads will be developed to link them with the Chennai-Kolkata highway. Vijayawada bypass road will be operational by September. There is a proposal for Vijayawada-Shamshabad green field expressway. If all proposals are implemented, Amaravati will soon become a city on par with Hyderabad.
The Center is extending all help to the state government for the development of Amaravati, as TDP is a key player in the NDA government. It has also responded positively to pass a bill declaring Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
The alliance government is already taking steps to develop Amaravati, Mangalagiri, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tadepalli into a mega city.
It is in the process of procuring land for smart industries, international airport and sports city which will have a world-class cricket stadium.
