From No Capital to Three Capitals!

Andhra Pradesh High Court had taken up the discussion about the future of Amaravati in the Assembly today, the last day of the Winter Session. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy hinted about the state going to have three capitals, probably in the three regions – Coastal Andhra, Uttarandhra, and Rayalaseema.

Jagan also reminded that South Africa has three capitals supporting his decision. “Amaravati may be the Legislative Capital, Kurnool may be the Judicial Capital, and Vishakapatnam may be the Executive Capital,” the Chief Minister said. Jagan said that this is in the name of the decentralization of Development.

Except for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir which is now broken down into three parts, no state in the country has more than one capital. Experts say that in the name of decentralization of Development, Jagan Government is diluting the concept of the capital.

TDP alleges that YSR Congress had sown the seeds of hatred on Amaravati in the people and now to satisfy the people of the regions, Jagan is resorting to this Thuglaq act. Experts say that in this political game, the farmers who have given their lands for Amaravati will end up on the losing side. Keeping political games aside, common man of AP is asking, will we ever have a capital?!
