AP: Govt Begins Purification Of Village Secretariats

During YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s regime in Andhra Pradesh, numerous people have been appointed as staff members of the village and ward secretariats across the state.

Eventually, his YCP government failed to show a proper job chart to all the recruited staff members. As a result, most of these staff members were left with no work in secretariats.

Most of these staff members are well-qualified individuals, whose services can be used in other departments as well. Thus, the state government, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, has decided to streamline the village-level administration across the state.

As of now, there are more than 15,000 village and ward secretariats in Andhra Pradesh with a staff of over 1.26 lakh.

There are about 14-15 staff members in each secretariat. But the government is now planning to reduce this number to four per secretariat and reassign the remaining staff to other departments.

As a part of it, 660 engineering assistants in village/ward secretariats have been recruited as Assistant Engineers (AE) in the Irrigation Department.

The rest of the staff are also expected to be recruited in various other departments in a phased manner.
