AP High Court Delivers A Sensational Judgment

Andhra Pradesh High Court has delivered a sensational verdict. It has set aside elections held for MPTCs and ZPTCs in the state. The High Court Bench has directed for elections to be held afresh. The honorable court observed that the Election process is vitiated since guidelines issued by Supreme Court in this regard have been violated.

The Government has hurriedly conducted the elections in the first week of April after a new SEC favorable to the Government is appointed. The Opposition parties have approached the court saying that there is no implementation of four weeks Model Code of Conduct as mandated by the Supreme Court.

A Single judge bench stalled the elections and the Government, then, approached a Divisional Bench. The bench agreed to the elections but directed the Election Commission not to take up the counting. Now, it has canceled the elections totally. The Government may now go for a review of the Divisional Bench’s verdict.

If the verdict is upheld, it means a massive loss for the public exchequer just because the Government and the learned SEC did not care for the rules and hurriedly went for the elections, political experts say.
