AP High Court Stalls Shift of Offices from Amaravati

It has become a norm for Andhra Pradesh Government to get rapped by the Courts. The latest is that Andhra Pradesh High Court has stopped the shifting of Government offices from Amaravati to Kurnool. The court struck down the G.O. to shift the Office of Vigilance Commissioner and Commissionerate of Enquires Chairman issued on January 31st.

The Government argued in the court that the decision is taken due to a space problem in Amaravati Secretariat. The government also argued that these offices are independent and do not have any link to the administration. The Court remarked that in such a case, the offices should be shifted somewhere in Amaravati but not to Kurnool.

The petitioners argued that this is a move to dilute Amaravati which is a contempt of the court. A couple of days ago, the State Government dropped hints that it would like to operate from Vishakapatnam, the proposed executive capital by May 31st.

But the court has indicated that it would not tolerate any such move until the bill is cleared in the Council and also, all the legal issues are cleared.
