Are IT folks in Hyderabad happy?

People working in the IT corridors of Hyderabad spend half of their life at the traffic signals. This is not a mere joke and is almost becoming a night mare for those working here. The major issue is due to the immense use of personal vehicles. 70% of the nearly 4 lakh employees and 16 lakh support staff work in 116 majors IT companies and other firms use their own vehicles and clog the roads.

Adding to that there are 100s of cabs and the usual commuters of the local areas and the neighbouring districts, create traffic problems. The traffic snarls are more during the peak hours. A survey previously conducted by the Cyberabad traffic police and GHMC estimated the traffic flow at 12,000 vehicles per hour at peak times.

The main causes of the traffice is due to the concentration of IT firms in Madhapur, Kondapur and Gachibowli. Adding to that the traffic diversions due to the ongoing construction work for the Strategic Road Development Plan and Metro Rail are adding to pressure on the roads and making travel miserable.
