B1/ B2 Visas: Good News For Indians Living In U.S

The US embassy in India has tweeted – Do you have upcoming international travel? If so, you may be able to get a visa appointment at the US Embassy or Consulate in your destination. For example, @USEmbassyBKK has opened B1/ B2 appointment capacity for Indians who will be in Thailand in the coming months.

The move by US Embassy has come following an upswing in the number of requests for visas for travel and business purposes post-COVID. In order to get their B1/ B2 visas, Indians abroad will no longer have to come back to India for processing. They can apply in the country they are in and avail of the services. Already, the US Consulate has allotted the necessary staff in Germany and Thailand.

The decision has been taken to tackle the issue of huge backlogs in India. This apart, the staff in US Consulates in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad has been increased to meet the demand. Also, special interview days on Saturdays will now be part of the process to speed up the process.

The US Consulate is also sending staff to embassies and consulates in other countries to help Indians get B1 and B2 visas. Since the wait time for B1/ B2 visas is about 1000 days, the Consulate has taken this crucial decision.
