In a major development, Bandi Bageerath, the 25-year-old son of BJP Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has surrendered to the police. The surrender follows a dramatic, high-stakes midnight hearing where the Telangana High Court flatly refused to grant him interim protection or pre-arrest bail in a shocking Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case. With a lookout circular issued and Cyberabad police conducting aggressive raids across Hyderabad and Karimnagar, Bageerath found his escape routes entirely cut off.
The case, which has triggered massive political and social outrage across Telangana, stems from a complaint filed on May 8 at the Petbasheerabad police station. The mother of a 17-year-old minor girl alleged that Bageerath subjected her daughter to repeated sexual assault, manipulation, and emotional isolation between October and December 2025. While the defense tried to minimize the charges as “improvements” to the initial FIR and claimed a counter-allegation of a ₹5 crore extortion bid, the prosecution successfully argued that the victim’s statement clearly established aggravated penetrative sexual assault.
The timing of the surrender makes it glaringly obvious that this was a legal damage-control move rather than a voluntary step. By surrendering right after the High Court denied him an interim shield, Bageerath is attempting to neutralize the “absconding” tag, which would have otherwise completely ruined his chances of securing regular bail in the future. Following his surrender, he will undergo mandatory medical examinations before being produced before a magistrate for judicial remand.
