Big Blow for India, Dhawan Ruled Out of World Cup for 3 Weeks

In what can be termed as a massive blow for Team India, Opener Shikar Dhawan has been ruled out the action for three weeks. He had been hit on his left thumb during India’s match against defending champions Australia at The Oval on Sunday. Subsequent scans revealed that he has sustained a thumb fracture.

Shikar Dhawan will be missing India’s upcoming matches against New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, West Indies, and England – all these matches are scheduled to be played in June. It is not sure if Team India will bring him in the later parts of the Tournament.

In such a case, BCCI will not name a replacement. In case they decide to rest Dhawan for the remainder of the series, the replacement could be Shreyas Iyer or Rishabh Pant. KL Rahul is most likely to open with Rohit Sharma with Dinesh Karthik or Vijay Shankar likely to slot in the middle order.

India will take on New Zealand this Sunday. India has won both of its matches so far while the Black Caps have also won all the three matches they played till now.
