Amaravati and the farmers who gave their land for the capital went through a brutal phase between 2019 and 2024. Jagan Mohan Reddy tried to erase the capital in the name of three capitals. In five years, not even one brick was laid in Amaravati.
Half-built structures filled with rainwater. Bushes and trees grew inside government buildings. When Chandrababu Naidu returned to power in 2024, thousands of crores went into clearing debris and repairing damage. Several buildings were beyond repair and had to be demolished.
Between 2014 and 2019, Amaravati also failed to move fast. Land pooling consumed time. Court cases dragged under pressure from farmers and the Opposition. Then YSR Congress wrote to the World Bank to stop funding. Progress slowed further and finally came to a halt.
Amaravati and Chandrababu Naidu received a second chance. Two factors now decide whether the capital becomes permanent. Legal protection must come first. Then fast and visible development must secure its future before 2029.
The bill for statutory backing is moving to Parliament. Construction has already resumed. But concrete alone will not build trust. Amaravati also needs emotional ownership from the public.
The biggest failure this term is communication. At present, there is no clear picture of what is happening in Amaravati. There is no official communication channel that provides daily updates.
A few independent YouTube channels share project progress. The government has not created a similar system. Instead, Narayana and Chandrababu Naidu rely on speeches filled with figures and policy language that fail to connect with the public.
Without clear communication, people will remain disconnected from the capital. Lack of information creates indifference. Without emotional attachment, Amaravati risks becoming only a location, not a living capital.
