The Election Commission of India has issued notification for the by-elections in three assembly segments in West Bengal and one in Odisha. The schedule for Badvel and Huzurabad by-elections is not given. The ECI has clarified that these elections will happen only after Dussehra.
“Telangana Government has requested the commission to have the by-election in Huzurabad after the festival season. So, the by-election will happen in October or November. Badvel by-election will also happen at the same time,” the ECI clarified.
This postponement will help the Ruling Party big time to go into the people. We have seen the state government giving 10 Lakh Rupees to each eligible Dalit family in the constituency in the name of the Dalit Bandu scheme so as to woo the decisive Dalit voters in the constituency.
More time for the election means TRS will have more time to woo the voters. TRS will have to defeat BJP’s Etela Rajender who has won four times from the same constituency. This is like BJP giving a chance to TRS to defeat itself. Even though it is the decision of ECI, usually, Central Government will have considerable influence in such decisions. Maybe there is a chance that BJP itself is buying time to take on TRS?
