BJP Creates History in Karimnagar, First Mayor

The Saffron party created history of sorts by winning the coveted Karimnagar municipal corporation. Though the BJP did not get a clear majority, but MoS Bandi Sanjay expressed confidence that his party would get the mayor post.

With the support of 34 corporators, the BJP finally put an end to suspense. Kolagani Srinivas was elected as the mayor while Sunil Rao was elected the deputy mayor.

Though the BJP won 30 seats, it did not get a clear majority to claim mayor’s post. Meanwhile, the Congress, BRS, MIM, AIFB and independents tried to meet in groups at a resort in the outskirts of the city and elect a mayor from amongst them.

While the Congress got support of 21 corporators, BRS remained neutral and that mayor post finally went to the BJP.

Taking to his X account, MoS Bandi Sanjay who played a crucial role in the win wrote a rather emotional post. Bandi said history was created as a BJP candidate won as the mayor for the first time in Karimnagar. He said he was happy that their party flag flew in the same ward where the Majlis office stands in Karimnagar.

Bandi profusely thanked the timely guidance provided by PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Kishan Reddy and other BJP colleagues.
