BJP Tactically Stalls Special Status Bill

Interesting events unfolded in Rajya Sabha as KVP Ramachandra Rao’s Private Member Bill demanding Special Status to Andhra Pradesh was supposed to come to discussion. Ruling BJP successfully stalled the proceedings of the house demanding action on an Aam Admi Party MP who shot a video about various layers of screening and checks in Parliament.

BJP MPs did not let the house to function demanding his arrest. Interestingly, the house can not make arrest and only government can order it. Repeated requests from Kurien to maintain decorum did not pacify BJP MPs whose sole motive seem to be not allowing the house to function. TDP MP CM Ramesh asked Kurien to put the house in order but all that went in vain.

Finally Kurien announced that Rajya Sabha will be adjourned till 11 AM on Monday. We will have to see if where the bill will be placed in the business of Monday. If Congress passed the Bifurcation Act back then by blacking out Lok Sabha TV, BJP is taking other route to deny Special Status to AP but will hope the consequences will not be like in the case of Congress in 2014.
