After BRS came to power in 2014, we have seen a new definition of defections. KCR brought the concept of legislative party mergers and killed TDP and YSR Congress in Telangana. In both 2014 and 2018, he dealt Congress with a death blow.
We have seen many big leaders defect to BRS and become Ministers as well. Talasani and Errabelli of TDP are examples.
The only big leader we saw going out of BRS is Eatala Rajender who is now in the BJP.
Eatala in a way proved that some leader can stand against KCR and sustain in politics. Winning Huzurabad by-election in BRS rule improved the image of Eatala as a strong leader. When Eatala joined BJP, the party was a formidable force and even has outside chance of coming to power in Telangana.
At that state, he fancied his chances as BJP’s CM candidate.
But just before the elections, BJP high command pulled the rug down the feet of BJP to stop Congress from coming to power. Now, BJP is pushed once again to the third position crushing the ambitions of Eatala.
It is certain that BJP has no chance of coming to power. The question is if Eatala can win one out of Huzurabad and Gajwel.
If KCR wins for the third time, he will make sure Eatala’s life becomes hell. KCR will try to show Eatala as an example about how dissent will be crushed with iron fist.
He will stand a chance only if BJP comes to power and he is made the Union Minister. BJP may take the risk only if he defeats KCR in Gajwel.
But if Congress wins and if Eatala is able to defeat KCR in Gajwel, we will see him emerge as a strong leader in politics.
