‘Merger’ The Only Option For KCR?

For some time now, there have been whispers that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) might merge with the BJP. While this seemed unlikely, Kavitha herself confirmed that a merger proposal came up while she was in jail.

Regional parties across India are under pressure. With the CBI and ED actively pursuing them, political survival has become difficult. The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi showed even Chief Ministers are not safe.

Kavitha was also arrested less than a year after BRS lost power. Now, BJP has another opportunity to tighten its grip on BRS.

Recently, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stunned the Opposition by announcing a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram Project. This came after a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report flagged a major cost escalation.

The report cited that the project cost jumped to ₹1,47,427.41 crore from an initial ₹81,911.01 crore. Such a large-scale deviation often indicates corruption, and if the CBI investigates properly, it could spell serious trouble for the BRS.

Adding to the concern, structural failures like the collapse of Medigadda piers suggest flaws in both planning and execution. The evidence is mounting, and escape for the BRS seems unlikely if the probe is pursued seriously.

However, how the situation unfolds will depend on the BJP’s political strategy. If the party aims to eliminate BRS and occupy its voter base, this could be the perfect moment.

In such a scenario, BRS might offer to merge with BJP in exchange for a clean exit from legal trouble. The final call, though, lies with the BJP leadership.

The saffron party may not go for alliances or post-poll deals, especially remembering how KCR backed out of a promise made to Sonia Gandhi during the Telangana bifurcation.

Revanth Reddy, meanwhile, appears to have taken personal satisfaction in pushing for the CBI probe. Many view this as his revenge for the Vote for Note scam arrest.

As things heat up, Telangana politics is headed for an eventful and unpredictable phase.
