
The viewers of Mukunda theater in Mahabubabad were enjoying Kuberaa movie when an unexpected event took place. Somewhere along the screening, the ceiling of the theater gave in.
Luckily, there was no major accident. But quite a few viewers sustained small injuries due to the event. Goes without saying, the viewers picked up a fight with the theater management following the incident.
The incident speaks of the plight of single screens in the state. Due to falling revenues, the theater owners cannot afford spending money on renovations. What happened in Mukunda is one example of what can happen if the theaters are not well-maintained.
Today, the craze is for multi-plexes and more specifically for multi-plexes in malls as it means eating, shopping and watching a movie, all at one go.
While much is spoken about the nostalgia that single screens evoke, maintaining them is a huge burden in today’s time and many theater owners are selling their space for commercial ventures.
