Center okays Vijayawada Metro

Finally it all ended well. The Union Urban Development Ministry had agreed in principle to fund 20% of the metro rail project proposed in Vijayawada. The metro rail will run for 25 Kilometers in Vijayawada.

Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu had announced this a short while ago. The state government will have to send the related proposals to the center and make an MOU. However extension of Metro Rail to Guntur is ruled out and high speed rail may be introduced in that route.

Also the center should approve the detailed project Report prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The state government is keen to complete the first phase of this project by 2018. JICA may fund for the state government’s share.
