Center to Levy GST on Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam

Union Finance Ministry had refused to give GST Exemption for Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. Giving exemption to one temple will mean that similar demands will crop up from all the temples, the Ministry cited as the reason for the refusal.

Currently, Andhra Pradesh government gives VAT Exemption to TTD and so the state government is demanding that GST should also be exempted. Finance Ministry’s Refusal will mean the GST will be levied on Prasad, Rooms etc of the Lord going forward.

The only option for the state government is to reimburse the GST to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam but that will only mean more burden to the state which is already burdened by a deficit budget. It has to be seen what happens in this case finally.
