Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting the immediate deployment of central teams to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab across the state.
In his letter on Wednesday, October 28, Chandrababu said the cyclone had damaged crops, houses, roads and electricity infrastructure, particularly in coastal districts. He sought continued assistance from the Centre for relief and restoration operations.
According to preliminary estimates shared by the Chief Minister, paddy crops across approximately 70,900 hectares were inundated, while horticultural crops suffered damage over 10,450 hectares.
Chandrababu reported that around 180 houses were damaged and more than 220 trees had fallen across roads. Several coastal roads were also affected, while uprooted electricity poles disrupted power supply.
The Chief Minister identified Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, Anakapalli and Krishna among the worst-affected districts.
He informed Amit Shah that 16 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and 11 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams had been deployed across 14 districts. The letter also stated that more than 28,000 people had been shifted to relief centres.
Chandrababu said control rooms and the State Emergency Operations Centre were operating continuously to coordinate rescue, relief and restoration activities. Electricity restoration and the clearance of damaged roads were being taken up on priority.
He assured the Centre that a comprehensive damage assessment would be submitted once officials completed their field surveys.
The Chief Minister requested Amit Shah to send central assessment teams at the earliest and continue the support of NDRF and other central agencies. He also thanked the Union government for its assistance during the cyclone.
