Google Entry Into AP, Why CBN Calls It A Game Changer

Andhra Pradesh is set to enter a new phase in the tech space, with Google choosing Visakhapatnam for a major AI data center. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu called the move a “game changer” for the state, saying it can transform both the regional and national digital landscape.

Speaking at the foundation ceremony of the Google AI Data Center at Thurlapadu near Visakhapatnam, Chandrababu described the development as a historic moment. He thanked the central government and Google for placing their trust in Andhra Pradesh for such a large-scale investment.

The proposed data center is expected to operate with a capacity of around one gigawatt, making it one of the largest of its kind. Chandrababu said this project will act as a growth engine, not just for Andhra Pradesh, but for India as well.

He added that Thurlapadu is likely to emerge as a major technology hub in the coming years, with the state positioning itself strongly in the global tech ecosystem. According to him, Andhra Pradesh has the potential to become an international data gateway, backed by strong infrastructure and connectivity.

Highlighting the state’s approach, Chandrababu said Andhra Pradesh is ready to welcome innovation at scale. He noted that Google’s technological strength combined with the state’s speed in governance can accelerate development.

He also pointed out that major companies are now showing interest in Visakhapatnam. Referring to firms like Adani Group and Bharti Airtel, he said the region is becoming a key destination for investments in infrastructure and connectivity.

The Chief Minister set a target to complete the Google AI data center by September 2028 and said efforts will be made to finish the project even earlier.

He also shared updates on other major projects. Bhogapuram Airport is expected to be dedicated to the nation in July, while the South Coast Railway Zone is likely to begin operations from June 1.

Chandrababu added that Anakapalli district has the potential to grow on the lines of Rangareddy district, with lower business costs making it attractive for investors.

Overall, he stressed that Andhra Pradesh is not just signing investment agreements, but actively pushing projects towards execution, aiming to position the state as a leading destination for technology and growth.
