Naidu or KCR – Who Should Get the Credit for Sindhu?

PV Sindhu made the nation proud by confirming at least a Silver for India at the ongoing Olympics. However, her victory led to an ugly spat between both the Telugu States on Social Media. Telangana Tweeps including Minister Harish Rao posted pictures of Sindhu carrying Bonalu and claimed it as a victory by a Telangana girl.

And then, Andhra Tweeps countered it by saying neither Sindhu nor her parents were born in Telangana and she could only become a settler according to TRS government’s earlier rule only those families born in the state before 1956 are the natives here. However, Both the CMs – Naidu and KCR played their part in what Sindhu is today.

It was Chandrababu Naidu who gave five acres of land to Gopichand’s Badminton Academy during his earlier tenure in Erst While Andhra Pradesh. The Academy today has made Hyderabad a hub for Badminton Players. Later YS Rajasekhara Reddy tried to take the land back, then Gopichand had to fight it in courts to save the lands and the academy. Sports Infra developed in Hyderabad when Naidu organized the National Games and Afro-Asian Games in the city for the first time.

When Sindhu went on to win Padma Shri award, K Chandrasekhara Rao announced a Cash Award of about 50 Lakhs and also promised a House Site for her near to the academy. But then this discussion of Credits is unnecessary. Its time for both the governments to liberally help in developing Sports Infra in the states so that more Sindhus can emerge. It’s a time for the nation to cherish and would only be ugly when we try to fight for the credit. Her parents, herself and Coach Gopichand should get the major share of Credit.
