Chiranjeevi Did Not Object to State Bifurcation?

Jairam Ramesh who is a part of Group of Ministers (GoM) who played a crucial role in the state bifurcation by drafting the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, penned a book ‘Old History, New Geography’ about what happened back then. The book has some interesting details about what happened behind the scenes.

Back then, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a long cabinet meeting and asked every member of the cabinet for his views on the issue. Jairam Ramesh went on to say that except for Pallam Raju and Kavuri Sambasiva Rao supported the bifurcation. That means others in the cabinet, Kishore Chandra Deo, Chiranjeevi, and Purandeswari did not object to bifurcation or supported the bifurcation.

But then Chiranjeevi and Purandeswari acted as if they fought hard to fight for the United State but could not convince the party high command. Purandeswari left Congress as a mark of protest and joined BJP now, enjoying posts.
