‘.com’ Monopoly to end on Internet?

‘.com’ extension literally ruled the internet world for several years. There are days where people recognize your establishment as standard only if you use the ‘.com’ extension. But the times are fast changing with the advent of new extensions like gTLDs (generic top level domains). Hundreds of new extensions, some specific to geographies, brands, professions and others are being introduced by the domain companies.

Some of these gTLDs include .media, .xyz, .food, .cab etc. Business owners are of the opinion that geography and business specific domains will be easy to be remembered by the end customers. Also most domain names are already exhausted with .com domain and introduction of these new extensions will bring options to the business owners. However there is a major challenge as well since .com sites being more favourable for the search engines.
