Court Dismisses Jagan’s Petition to Exempt from Court Appearances

In what can be termed as a shocking development, Nampally CBI Court has dismissed the petition of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for the Exemption from the Personal Appearances to the Court every Friday. The Court has agreed with the CBI’s arguments against the Petition.

CBI argued that Jagan in his capacity as a MP back then tried to influence the witnesses in the cases and can do that further since he is a Chief Minister now. Jagan’s Counsel argued that he has to discharge his constitutional duties as the CM and also attending the court every Friday will be a huge financial burden.

The Counsel went on to say that the State would have to spend over 65 Lakhs for each court visit of Jagan. The court did not agree with any of the arguments and clarified that everyone is equal before the law. This verdict will have huge political ramifications in Andhra Pradesh.

Political Observers say that this verdict also indicates that BJP led Central Government is not keen on giving any space for Jagan. The Chief Minister attending the Court every Friday will mean that Politics in Andhra Pradesh will go around this issue for a while now.
