Curious Case of Cost Escalation in Police Towers

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekara Rao’s pet project of Twin Police Towers construction could not even begin one year after the foundation stone ceremony. According to the initial DPR, First Tower will have 24 floors while the second will have 17 floors. These buildings are expected to be of 135 meters height.

However Airports Authority of India declined permission for the Towers construction due to its close proximity to Begumpet Airport which is being used by VIPs now. Subsequently, the state government has decided to have only 19 floors in this Towers. The Project was initially planned for 302 Crore.

As the construction work came down, the cost should also come down but then the cost got escalated by 350 Crore now. Shapoorji Pallonji Company which is constructing the Interim Secretariat in Amaravati has got this project. Earlier L&T also bid for this Twin Towers Project but backed off in the last minute.
