Cyber Crime on a rise in Hyderabad!

With the advent of technology and affordable internet connectivity, Cyber Crime seem to be rising in Hyderabad. The Crimes have seen a steep increase of 37 percent this year. Last year, the cases were numbered 479 in 2013 and they are at a staggering 655 this year.

Stalking SMS and emails topped the list of cyber crime cases with 105 such cases registered. Also the menace of harassing women by uploading fake profiles in social networking sites is also increasing. There were 16 of them last year and this year, there are 90 such cases.

Online frauds also rose to 18 from six last year while debit and credit card frauds increased to 61 from 29. There were 14 cases of ‘Nigerian lottery’ scam, against eight in 2013. However the police also say that rise in Cyber Crime cases need not reflect the increase of crime but also the increase of awareness in people about reporting such cases.
