Purandeswari Banks On ‘NBK Effect’ For Political Survival

Daggubati Purandeshwari has been made the President of the Andhra Pradesh BJP. She now has the responsibility of bringing some respectable vote share in AP for the party.

If there is no alliance, BJP winning seats in Andhra Pradesh is a gone case anyway.

Purandeshwari is keen on going to Parliament at any cost this time as she is expecting Cabinet Berth.

Buzz is that she is contemplating contesting for Hindupur Parliament in 2024.

Hindupur is a stronghold for TDP. Since its inception, TDP won all the elections in Hindupur Assembly. NT Ramarao, Harikrishna and now Balakrishna represented the constituency.

Balakrishna will look for a hat trick in the coming elections.

Hindupur Parliament is also a strong segment for the Nandamuri family but then, not as much as the Assembly segment.

Since 1983, TDP won four elections here while losing four times including in 2019.

But Purandeshwari feels it will be a one-sided election if someone from the Nandamuri family contests

She also feels her victory will also be helped by her brother, Balakrishna’s popularity in the area.

This calculation may work if there is an alliance between TDP and BJP, but if there is no alliance, there can be a cross-voting problem for both the assembly and parliament segments.

There is a danger that family admirers will cast one vote for either of them and cast another vote for the YSR Congress’s candidate. In such a scenario, it will be counter-productive.

It will be the first time a Nandamuri family member will be contesting from Hindupur Parliament if this report actually turns out to be true.

Meanwhile, Survey reports of TDP as well as YSR Congress suggest that Balakrishna is all set for another victory in Puram.
