Diesel Cars to be banned in Hyderabad?

Reports are emerging that National Green Tribunal is contemplating a ban of Diesel cars in 11 cities of Hyderabad where the pollution is more. The 11 cities are likely to include metros such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru , Chennai and Hyderabad. Already the ban is existing in National Capital Region and some cities of Kerala.

Given the hefty prices of Petrol, Middle class and upper middle class always opt for Diesel cars despite high taxes. This ban will come as a huge disappointment. Also about 4 Lakh Diesel vehicles are being cold annually in the country. This ban is likely to lead a loss of 47,000 jobs, according to estimates.

Diesel vehicles which will be used for Public transportation will be exempted from the ban. NGT is also considering taking off old diesel vehicles off the roads in the 11 cities where the ban is planned. There is a criticism that the ban is unscientific and with out foresight.
