East Godavari: Sentiment Favoring TDP+ This Time!

The Erstwhile East Godavari district is a politically highly relevant district in AP politics. They say ‘Thoorpu Etaithe Rashtram kuda ate’ which means East Godavari results will decide the ruling party in the state.

There are nineteen Assembly segments in this district, the highest in the entire state. Whichever party gets majority here, it is natural to win the state.

In the 2014 elections, TDP won fourteen seats here (One rebel from TDP in Pitapuram and BJP included).

In the 2019 elections, the YSR Congress won fourteen seats and went on to come to power in the state.

If the results of East Godavari are taken as a parameter, TDP+ is at an advantage to win the state in this election.

YSR Congress is winning Tuni and Anaparthy comfortably.

Tuni is riddled with problems for TDP due to the group politics in the Yanamala family.

Tuni is the stronghold of TDP ever since its inception. TDP has won six elections on a trot from 1983 to 2004. Since then, it has lost all the elections.

Anaparthy is a Reddy bastion. Giving the ticket to the BJP made things easy for the YSR Congress. Things may change a bit if TDP comes back but still, YSR Congress will have an edge due to the community presence.

There is a keen contest going on in Kakinada City, Ramachandrapuram, P Gannavaram, and Rajanagaram.

TDP+ is ahead in Prathipadu and Amalapuram with a slight edge.

In the remaining eleven seats, TDP+ is decisively ahead. The majorities in some districts are going to be huge due to the alliance between TDP and Janasena.

Pawan Kalyan contesting from Pitapuram is influencing all the seven seats under the Kakinada Parliament.

Janasena is also comfortably placed to win Kakinada Parliament while Purandeshwari’s fortunes in Rajahmundry Parliament will depend on Anaparthy. YSR Congress may get a big majority there if the BJP is contesting.
