
The latest scam to come out in Telangana is the Sheep Rearing Development Scheme (SRDS). While CAG audit found Rs 253.93 crore loss in 7 districts, the ED has found over Rs 1000 crore loss across 33 districts.
The case made headlines after ED raided the house of G Kalyan Kumar, OSD to former animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivasa Yadav. They found documents and cash related to the scam.
The ED also found 200 suspected mule/ dummy accounts linked to an online betting app. It found that funds were transferred to several people and entities who were never involved in buying or selling of sheep before. Also, no actual sale or purchase of sheep was done by the recipients.
ED also found that government funds were illegally transferred to bank accounts of bogus vendors. Similarly, bogus receipts were used to claim money from the government, under the scheme.
The ED also found documents and other material showing kickbacks to government officials. Documents related to various bank accounts, cheque books, passbooks and debit cards were seized.
ED also found 31 mobile phones and 20 SIM cards used during the scam. On July 30, ED conducted raids at 8 places relating to SRDS. Since then, the latest scam has become talk of political circles.
