Aviation connectivity in Andhra Pradesh is set to expand with the state planning eight new airports. These will connect interior regions with major cities, boosting travel and trade across the state.
The new airports will be developed in Srikakulam, Tuni-Annavaram, Tadepalligudem, Amaravati, Ongole, Dagadarthi, Kuppam, and Nagarjuna Sagar. This is part of a plan to strengthen infrastructure and improve regional air connectivity.
Currently, Andhra Pradesh has six airports in Vijayawada, Tirupati, Kurnool, Kadapa, Rajahmundry, and Vizag. With the new additions, the total will rise to 14, including seven greenfield projects and an international airport at Bhogapuram.
To support this expansion, GMR Aviation University will be set up in Vizag to train professionals in various fields of aviation. This is expected to create skilled manpower for the growing industry.
All airports in the state are managed by the Airports Authority of India or Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited. Vijayawada and Vizag airports serve as international hubs, while Tirupati international airport mainly supports spiritual tourism. Other airports focus on domestic connectivity.
