The financial details of political party donations for the financial year 2022-23 were publicly disclosed by the Election Commission.
According to the information provided, the YSRCP received a total of Rs. 68 crores in the form of 30 thousand donations during this period. P. Krishnamohan Reddy, acting as the treasurer of YSRCP, submitted these details to the EC with his signature.
Notably, only Rs. 30 thousand out of the total donations were identified in the name of the donor, contributed by Pochinreddy Subbareddy from Kadapa. The disclosure raised concerns about the transparency of YSRCP’s funding sources, as the names of donors for the remaining Rs. 68 crores were not revealed.
The central government allows donors to contribute to political parties through electoral bonds purchased from SBI, ensuring anonymity. YSRCP reportedly received Rs. 52 crores through this method.
In contrast, the financial details of donations to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were transparent. Raju Naik, the general secretary of the party, provided the details of the donations received by TDP to the EC.
TDP disclosed receiving Rs. 11,92,39,000 in public donations, without involving Electoral Bonds or Prudent Trust Bonds. Unlike YSRCP, TDP’s donation list includes identifiable contributors, providing greater transparency in their funding sources.
