Explained: No Logic Behind Name NTR Vijayawada Dist

Chandrababu Naidu Government changed the name of YSR District as YSR Kadapa District. PCC President YS Sharmila welcomed this move but with a pinch of Criticism.

While she welcomed the changed, she demanded that the NTR District should be named as NTR Vijayawada District.

So this has sparked a discussion.

Kadapa District is named as such because the district is called “దేవుని తొలి గడప”. That is Kadapa District is the the Gadapa of Lord Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala.

The then Congress Government renamed it as YSR Kadapa District after the demise of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. After the Districts Reorganization, Jagan Mohan Reddy dropped the word ‘Kadapa‘ completely and made it YSR District.

Now, the Chandrababu Naidu Government named it back to ‘YSR Kadapa District‘ respecting the sentiments of the devotees. Even though YSR is a Rival, Chandrababu Naidu was not narrow-minded to drop his name.

So how about changing NTR District to NTR – Vijayawada District as per the demand of Sharmila?

NTR District was never renamed after Vijayawada. There is never a District called Vijayawada for the people to miss – unlike Kadapa, which was a known district, hence YSR Kadapa.

Also, Vijayawada was never a District Headquarter. In the Erstwhile Krishna District, Machilipatnam is the District Headquarter even though Vijayawada was the Biggest City of the District.

So the Demand to name NTR as NTR Vijayawada District is more of a Political Demand with no rationality.
